MAMBO holds a demonstration day in Malta
The MAMBO project successfully held a demonstration event titled “Leveraging Emerging Technologies for Measurable Biodiversity Impacts” on 8 April in Valletta, Malta. The event was organised by project partners at Ecostack Innovations and brought together participants to explore MAMBO's innovative tools and approaches for biodiversity monitoring.

The session began with an introduction to the MAMBO project and a suite of five project-derived monitoring technologies: pollinator cameras, the AMI light trap, the Audiomoth bioacoustic device, Pl@ntNet Plot for plant quadrat image analysis, and airborne laser scanning (LiDAR). Attendees were guided through the purpose, deployment logistics, and expected outputs of each device.
A practical demonstration followed in the conference centre’s roof garden, where participants had the opportunity to observe selected devices in operation. The pollinator cameras and Audiomoth were presented in detail, with live explanations of their technical setup and functionality.
The event continued with an overview of MAMBO demonstration sites, highlighting the adaptability of the technologies across different ecosystem types. Particular focus was given to the Maltese context, including preliminary data outputs and analyses from local deployments.
An interactive mapping exercise concluded the session, engaging participants in identifying potential monitoring locations across Malta, Gozo, and Comino. This activity also encouraged discussion on the usability and applicability of the devices within participants’ own biodiversity monitoring efforts.
